Review: Beat Happening – Black Candy (K Records)

If Crystal Stilts and German Measles made a baby, Beat Happening would be the prodigious result. It’s not an accurate way to represent the band simply because Beat Happening date back to 1982. Regardless, the three sound alike and all the credit goes to these guys [and a girl] that started a band purely based on boredom. Black Candy is the solution to all your problems. Almost literally bellowing out “I love you, let’s party on the beach”.  Stand-up tom n’ snare kit,  lying down while playing guitar, pleasing baritone vocals and the occasional soothing voice of a female. I think the world would have ended a long time ago if this album didn’t make it’s way onto the scene.
